Quiet on the western front since 2020, Gruzja released a brand new single entitled ‘Od Przedszkola Do Okopa’ some weeks back, and they’ve followed it up with what we learn is the title track from their upcoming album Koniec Wakacji.
They’d have us believe the new single “sounds like the first school bell and tastes like the last watermelon of the season,” but you can check that out yourselves via the video presented here at RAMzine.
Translated as “the end of the holidays”, Koniec Wakacji is scheduled for a 6th October release. Gruzja will self-release the album, and we’re told: “Greed is the reason behind this decision,” and don’t you just love that justification. The album itself will be available in CD and digital formats.
The author of the album’s graphic design is Zbigniew Bielak. Satanic Audio is responsible for mixing and mastering,
Recorded at MAQ Records and in The Basement, Satanic Audio handled mixing and mastering, with Zbigniew Bielak responsible for the album’s design. Guests on the album include LARMO, Mold, Perturbator and what has been described as “unknown people”.
We’re told Koniec Wakacji can be compared to a history book and a daily news bulletin – It doesn’t offer anything new. It’s a collection of fragments. Fresh and cold, strange and personal. It’s charades in a trench, and a trench in a smartphone. Faces tuned and disarmed. Everything fake and not pretended.
Gruzja is a group of immigrants from Australia drawing on the folklore of Sudan and Sosnowiec. The line-up consists of artists, instrumentalists and vocalists known from Furia, Odraza, Biesy, THAW, Mentor, Licho, Wędrowcy~Tułacze~Zbiegi and several other bands.
They released the albums I Iść Dalej (2019) and Jeszcze Nie Mamy Na Was Pomysłu (2019); a split with Neon Scaffold titled Konflikt (2020) and a computer game soundtrack album entitled Vulgator (2021) for the game Priest Simulator. The new album is being submitted for nominations to prestigious award juries at Fryderyk Awards, Polityka’s Passport, Bursztynowy Słowik, Adidas Literary Award and Gdynia Literary Award.
Koniec Wakacji features the tracks ‘Jerusalem shore’, ‘Aleksandria’, ‘Pomnik’, ‘Od przedszkola Do Okopa’, ‘Poczytaj Mi Tato’, ‘Moda Nienawiści’, ‘Kciuk Cel Pal’ ‘Sałynka’, ‘Następna Stacja Getto’ featuring Mold, ‘Do Pokoju’, ‘Koniec Wakacji’, ‘Już Po Dzwonku’ featuring LARMO, ‘Wojna Domowa’ and Kciuk Cel Pal remixed by Perturbator.
Gruzja will promote the new album on a Polish tour starting on 12th October. Joining the band on the tour will be The Stubs and Mchy i Porosty. Tickets are on sale now.
The ‘Od Przedszkola Do Okopa’ single translates as “from kindergarten to the trench – It’s still available digitally, and you can check out the video for it here at RAMzine.
The band has described the song as “very entertaining and that it talks about very serious things, such as: birth, death, promotions in discount stores and war”.
