Symphonic metal mainstays Kamelot have unveiled a grandiose new single, ‘Godlike Alchemy’, the second cut from their forthcoming album Dark Asylum, out 28th August via Napalm Records.
Following triumphant debut single ‘Ashen World’, ‘Godlike Alchemy’ emerges larger than life, its soaring string arrangements carrying frontman Tommy Karevik’s goosebump-inducing wails. Dynamically expansive and rhythmically infectious, the band oscillate between the ornate and the brutal, with Thomas Youngblood wielding serious melodic firepower across the solo and breakdown.
“This song encapsulates the overarching theme of Dark Asylum,” says Karevik. “What if you don’t need to look outside of yourself to find peace and happiness? What if you already possess the power you need to heal and create the reality you want to see? What if we are all magical, powerful beings with unlimited potential?”
Set within a shadowed Neo Victorian world, Dark Asylum invites listeners beyond the gates of RavenHill Asylum, an imposing institution once built as a grand cathedral, now a place where science, faith and madness uneasily coexist. Kamelot push further into cinematic territory here, welcoming a host of guest voices including Avantasia mastermind Tobias Sammet, Eluveitie’s Lea-Sophie Fischer, Visions of Atlantis’s Clémentine Delauney and Decessus frontwoman Ignacia Fernández.
Produced by Sascha Paeth and Kamelot, and mixed by Jacob Hansen, the record spans standard black, gold and silver pressings alongside a raft of collector variants.
