UK alternative metal artist Lucyvivor has released ‘The Hollowing’, a crushing, deeply personal single that turns emotional numbness into a furious cry of defiance.
The track explores the psychological breaking point where the mind, overwhelmed by pain, shuts down feeling completely just to survive. Drawing on her own lived experience of Borderline Personality Disorder and Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder, Lucyvivor builds an eerie, industrial atmosphere of rattling chains, distant metallic clanks and hollow silences. It captures the sensation of screaming behind your own eyes while the outside world hears only stillness.
As the song unfolds, that numbness begins to fracture. Cold emptiness snaps into explosive riffs and raw vocal rage, becoming a song about digging through buried grief and old wounds and refusing to let the darkness win.
“To me, music is a form of therapy, but rather than being confined to a closed room where it only helps one person, it has the power to reach out into the dark and connect with thousands,” she says. “Music speaks where words fail. If ‘The Hollowing’ can reach just one person who feels frozen, numb, or ready to give up, and this song helps them to reignite that spark of defiance deep inside them to keep fighting forward, then this song has done everything it was born to do.”
‘The Hollowing’ is the eighth chapter released from her ambitious 13-track debut album, created with producer Jim White and mapping out the stages of trauma, survival and rebirth. Alongside the album, she is writing a book with a chapter for each track, drawn from her own journey with mental and physical health.
Fiercely independent, Lucyvivor edits and colour grades her own visuals, with plans for a music video for every track on the record. Her recent singles have landed on Spotify’s flagship metal playlist The Pit and Deezer’s Metal Detector, and her music has been played on BBC Introducing Rock.
Fans of Bring Me The Horizon, Bad Omens, Motionless In White and Spiritbox will find plenty to connect with here.
Lucyvivor takes her full band to Leeds on Friday 13 November for Jay Sinful’s Shadow Factory at Boom, alongside headliner Matt Heart, VAEIN and N0trixx. She is also lined up for London Metal Pride in 2027.
