You might call it a crimewave but they spell it Crymwav, and these Los Angeles rockers have a new single out, ‘Everything Turns Grey’, via Electric Pudding Recordings.
“This song has resonated with me from the moment I first heard it all those years ago and it feels so relevant to today,” said singer Roger Deering of the new single, an Agent Orange cover. “It was the last-minute addition at the end of our last recording session to finish up our long-awaited LP. It just came together effortlessly and just felt right. I think we’ve done it justice. We are eager to let this out into the universe.”
As to their incarnation, Deering said: “I was staying in London about four years ago when a songwriting spree hit me. I wanted to channel the spirit of bands from that area: Hawkwind, The Clash, Killing Joke, Motörhead. I came back to LA with a fistful of songs, and Crymwav was born.”
The year was 2022, when Crymwav was formed from the ashes of rockers Smash Fashion. Their roots are very much set in the American hardcore scene of the 1980s, but they also cite influences including punk, post-punk and goth alongside bands like Thin Lizzy, UFO and The Ruts.
Crymwav’s full recording lineup for the forthcoming album was Roger Deering (rhythm guitar, vocals, bass), Lloyd Stuart Casson (lead guitar, vocals, bass), Pat Muzingo (drums) and Bruce Braddock (bass).
