Swiss chart hit album chantress and former Burning Witches singer Seraina Telli blends rock and glam pop on her new single ‘Chameleon’ to tell a story about trying to live up to other people’s expectations and, in the process, eventually losing touch with oneself.
It’s a theme that could hardly be more personal. Because before you learn to be true to yourself, you often try the opposite first. As the songstress herself explained: “I changed myself a thousand times. Didn’t know how to be mine.”
The song begins where self-doubt arises: with the question of who one is actually supposed to be, and with the constant adapting, pretending and comparing. But ‘Chameleon’ turns this perspective on its head: what if it’s perfectly fine to change your colour?
It doesn’t have to be a bad thing not to know from an early age exactly how to do everything. There are people who are simply chameleons: they try things out, change, move on and keep discovering new sides to themselves. Not because they don’t know who they are, but because they’re curious and know they don’t have to be just one colour. And isn’t that exactly what makes this creature so unique?
‘Chameleon’ is about taking the liberty to change. To be weird. To stay curious. And to go your own way, even if not everyone understands it. At its heart lies a realisation that sounds simpler than it is: “I’m already good at being me,” Telli confirms.
Telli has repeatedly explored themes such as self-determination, courage and personal freedom in her music, and she continues this thread with her new single.
