The Californian thrash metal titans have released their first single ‘When The Stillness Comes’ from their upcoming album. Guitarist Kerry King explains that he was in a very vicious mood when the thought of the new track descended on him:
We were touring Europe and we had a three-hour ride in some fucking minivan and I’m just miserable in the backseat, not into anything,” he says of the song. “So I just stated jotting down hateful thoughts. It’s about a dude who wakes up at a crime scene and realizes he’s killed everybody. It’s really cool.”
As we all know serial killers and demons are a reoccurring theme in the bands vocabulary so no surprise here. 😀 The track masterfully builds the tension and ends abruptly. Listening it is a must!
SLAYER‘s last album World Painted Blood was released in 2009. So after 6 years of waiting metal heads can finally enjoy some new shit from them! ‘When The Stillness Comes’ is one of 12 new songs that will appear on the new record.
This is the bands first album since the passing of their iconic founding guitarist Jeff Hanneman and the departure of drummer Dave Lombardoin 2013. Fortunately for us the band has survived the trauma and they are back!
‘When The Stillness Comes’ was made available as part of Record Store Day on April 18. The song, accompanied by a live recording of ‘Black Magic’ from the band’s 1983 album Show No Mercy and recorded live at the 2014 Wacken Open Air Festival, featured on a limited-edition (only 5000 copies worldwide) 7-inch vinyl picture disc exclusively available at all participating independent record stores worldwide…but unfortunately for UK fans, this is now sold out.
