Nashville’s Stephen Wilson Jr. has released two new songs, ‘yellow brick home’ and ‘Exorcisms on the Weekend’, just ahead of a run of sold-out UK headline shows, including O2 Academy Brixton.
‘Exorcisms on the Weekend’ introduces “a misunderstood, small town anti-hero who doesn’t shy away from helping others in her own way,” while ‘yellow brick home’ is about “choosing and accepting a world where an existence of familiar chaos is seemingly more entertaining than the chase and catch of money & modern riches.”
It has been quite a year. Wilson Jr. is one of the top nominees at the 60th CMA Awards, with four nominations including Song of the Year for ‘Gary’, which he wrote alone. Last month Eddie Vedder joined him on stage for Temple of the Dog‘s ‘Hunger Strike’, and Rolling Stone said it “cemented his status as a grunge-country pioneer”.
A former indie rock guitarist turned country breakout who can share a stage with Vedder and make it look natural is someone we should all be paying attention to!
