The Speaker Wars are intent on keeping the festive spirit alive with their new Christmas song, ‘Brighten the Corner’, that’s out now alongside an accompanying video.
Formed by Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Stan Lynch, a long-time drummer and founding member of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, alongside singer/songwriter Jon Christopher Davis The Speaker Wars, released their debut album on Frontiers Music Srl this year.
The Speaker Wars is round out by guitarist Michael Smith, bass player Brian Patterson, percussionist Steve Ritter and Jay Brown on keyboards.
For a limited time, fans who purchase the debut self-titled album via the Frontiers US webstore will receive a free download of the new single, along with an exclusive Christmas card signed by Lynch, while supplies last.
After two decades of recording and touring multiple albums with The Heartbreakers, Lynch had moved to the other side of the recording console and shifted his focus to production and songwriting. Over the years, he has as written and produced hits for artists in multiple genres, including The Eagles, Don Henley, Tim McGraw, The Mavericks, Ringo Starr, The Byrds, Toto, and The Fabulous Thunderbirds.
“After my 20-year tenure with The Heartbreakers, I got a second act writing and producing. It was educational beyond measure to learn how to create music from the other side of the glass,” said Lynch, adding: “Around this time, I met Jon Christopher Davis in Nashville who casually mentioned that we should start a band – so here I am – in The Speaker Wars and it’s good to have my old job back. The guys in our new band know how to make great music, and I’m looking forward to another round.”
There have been a number of singles by The Speaker Wars taken from the album itself, ‘When The Moon Cries Wolf’ being the most recent.
‘’When The Moon Cries Wolf’ is a rocker that had me goin’ from the moment JCD blurted out the title,” said Lynch. “It was a gas to record; it just kept getting stronger the more we played it. Jon sings the snot out of it, and once he had the vocal, the tune reminded me of Mad Dogs & Englishmen‘s early records. It’s even better when we play it live.”
It follow ‘The Forgiveness Tree’, the third single and video available from the band. “This one had legs from the start,” said Lynch. “It’s written from the heart. It’s a roadmap to healing. It’s the truth.”
Singer Davis added: “It was a simple chorus I had laying around. I sat at Stan’s piano and played it. He immediately knew where I was trying to go. Two hours later, the song was finished. The end result is a soul scratcher.”
