Review: Memoriam – The Hellfire Demos II

Focusing on the themes of death, loss and war Memoriam was formed after the tragic death of Martin ‘Kiddie’ Kearns (Bolt Throwers Drummer) in September 2015 and was originally a band who decided to play cover tracks of songs that had influenced each member in turn. However, after creating some of their own tracks it was obvious that the band needed to make their own path and did so, which proved very beneficial to them. ‘Drone Strike’ is fully charged with blast beats and grazing vocal but also contains melody and striking rhythms which immerses the listener to fully engage.

‘Surrounded (By Death)’ takes a few seconds to heat up but once it does it holds that jagged rhythm that you can’t get enough of as it infects with a savage lure infecting everything in its wake! The powerful potency is deadly, a real assault that is intrusive, compelling and bordering on the insane! Skilfully executed it weaves a frenzied web of riffs that excite and enthral. This two-track is just an appetiser but says to me that the bands album ‘For the Fallen’ is going to be a monstrous hit if these two tracks are anything to go by.

Memoriam The Hellfire Demos II is out through Nuclear Blast Records on 20th January 2017.
