You might know Wednesday 13 by his birth name, Joe Poole, who is best known as the frontman of Murderdolls. He formed Wednesday 13 in 2004 and has enjoyed considerable success since then, having released numerous albums and EPs. His latest work, titled Mid Death Crisis, was released on April 25, 2025, through Napalm Records.
This album explores the darker side of midlife. It’s filled with deep emotion, aggression, energy, and passion. Comprising 12 tracks in total, each song delves deeper into darker themes and heavier sounds.
The album starts with an introduction which repeats the title of the first track, ‘There’s No Such Thing As Monsters’ for just over one minute, delivered in his deep voice and slight echoes evoking the atmosphere of a horror film!
Among the tracks featured on this album are ‘In Misery’, ‘Rotting Away’, ‘I Hurt You’, ‘My Funeral’, ‘Sick And Violent’, and ‘No Apologies’, which features metal legend Taime Downe. ‘No Apologies’ is a song that stands out on the album. Both Wednesday and Taime’s voices blend well together, creating a vision of horror and darkness, with guitar riffs that are fast and impressive.
Another song that stands out is ‘My Funeral,’ the lyrics hold a lot of emotion, darkness, and heaviness, resonating with listeners who suffer with mental health. ‘Sick And Violent’, although the last song on the album is a heavy, hitting masterpiece! Fast and heavy drums throughout the song, lots of passionate chanting, and very easy for the listener to sing and chant along.
Mid Death Crisis provides lots of insane riffs and basslines, loud and fast drums, and of course, deep and heavy screams, shouts, and singing. It’s infectious, fast, loud, catchy, and sick! What more can you ask for? It’s an incredible album full of horror and chaos!
