Costa Rican thrash metal crew Chemicide have announced their new album, Self Devour, due in 2027 via Listenable Records.
With five albums and an EP behind them, Chemicide have become one of Latin America’s biggest thrash acts, building their following through relentless DIY touring. Self Devour is their rawest and most punishing record yet.
“We wanted something completely raw,” explains band leader Frankie. “The idea was to do a record that has a live feeling where you can feel that you’re in the room with us, like the albums that we grew up listening to, that had space, that weren’t completely digital, absolutely polished and perfect.”
He points to Kreator, Demolition Hammer, Hypnosia and Vio-Lence as influences, while insisting the band wanted to find their own sound. Lyrically, the album tackles a society that “just eats you whole”, where people become fuel for the machine. It closes with a cover of Inside Out‘s ‘Redemption’.
“We left our mistakes in; we tried to keep it as real as possible,” Frankie adds. “And lastly, if people don’t like it, there’s really nothing we can do. We absolutely love it.”
The band are currently on The Violence Continues Tour, which reaches the UK in November.
