Here’s a team-up nobody saw coming. 80s pop star Tiffany, former W.A.S.P. guitarist Chris Holmes and Black Sabbath and Dio drummer Vinny Appice have joined forces on a heavy metal version of Stevie Nicks‘ ‘Edge Of Seventeen’.
The track is taken from Steel Rumours: The Songs Of Fleetwood Mac Reforged In Metal, a new tribute album out on 27 November via Cleopatra Records. It’s not strictly a Fleetwood Mac song, of course, as it first appeared on Nicks’ solo debut in 1981. But plenty of people thought it was a Mac track at the time, and it has more than earned its place.
Tiffany, best known for her 1987 chart-topper ‘I Think We’re Alone Now’, brings new depth to the lyric. Holmes and Appice give it some real weight, and Appice also turns up alongside Tiffany on ‘Gypsy’.
The rest of the album features Doro, George Lynch, Candice Night, Cherie Currie, Tim “Ripper” Owens, Alex Skolnick, Doug Aldrich, Vinnie Moore and Ronnie Romero, among others. It covers everything from Peter Green era classics such as ‘Black Magic Woman’ and ‘The Green Manalishi (With The Two Prong Crown)’ to ‘Dreams’, ‘The Chain’ and ‘Little Lies’.
Steel Rumours is out on CD and black, clear and white splatter vinyl.
