An all-star line-up has taken on Deep Purple’s ‘Burn’ for Purple Storm, a new tribute album out on 13 November via Cleopatra Records.
The track brings together former Whitesnake guitarist Doug Aldrich, bassist Bob Daisley, Rainbow drummer Bobby Rondinelli, Journey keyboard player Jonathan Cain and goth metal outfit 616.
‘Burn’ was the title track of David Coverdale‘s first album with Deep Purple, and it’s a song Aldrich knows well. “Playing ‘Burn’ with David Coverdale or Glenn Hughes was always a great jam,” he says. “This new version was equally enjoyable to play on. I have been extremely fortunate to work with some of the Deep Purple and Rainbow members during my time. That family tree is pretty legendary!”
He also knows whose shoes he’s filling. “No one can play guitar like Ritchie Blackmore. I always do my best to treat his music with the ultimate respect. God bless Blackmore!”
The rest of the album is just as stacked, with Derek Sherinian, Billy Sheehan, George Lynch, Graham Bonnet, L.A. Guns, Arthur Brown, Rick Wakeman, Marty Friedman and Jordan Rudess among those taking part. Purple Storm is out on CD, digital and purple double vinyl.
