Shock rock legends GWAR never fail to bring the lols, and somehow their twisted take on Chappell Roan’s ‘Pink Pony Club’ feels like the perfect match. Now they’re announcing a triple salvo of pure, blood-soaked chaos: a limited edition pink 7″ vinyl, official action figures from Trick or Treat Studios, and a sprawling North American tour for the autumn.
The Pink 7″ vinyl, due 26th June via GWAR.net, pairs ‘Pink Pony Club’ with the band’s reimagining of Ryan Gosling’s ‘I’m Just Ken’, retitled ‘We’re Just GWAR’. Originally produced in collaboration with The A.V. Club, the two covers have already racked up a combined 2.5 million views on YouTube, with the ‘Pink Pony Club’ cover earning the kind of comments-section devotion only GWAR can inspire (best of the bunch goes to the person who said: “If they don’t play this at my funeral, I’m not dying.”). Pre-orders include a limited edition Pink Cuttlefish of Cthulhu, a 7″ test pressing plaque, and a Pink Pony Club shirt.
The vinyl release coincides with the band’s ongoing blood drive initiative, Gor Gor Must Die!, dedicated to founding member Chuck Varga (The Sexecutioner), who is currently battling cancer. Over 900 fans have already donated or registered as donors in his name. As The Berzerker Blothar puts it: “We are astonished. GWAR’s Gor Gor Must Die! Tour kicks off 27th October in Charlottesville, VA, and rampages through North America until 12th December in Norfolk, VA, with a special appearance on The Headbangers Boat in between. Black ‘n’ roll powerhouse Midnight join as direct support, fast-food parody metal outfit Mac Sabbath open every night, and select dates feature X-Cops and Atomic Rule.
Speaking on the tour, Blothar explains: “As both father and mother to our precious dinosaur Gor Gor, my hearts break to see what he has become: a crack-addicted truck-stop lizard-of-the-evening. It is time for some tough love!”
