Kingdom of Giants have returned with ‘Respawn’, a new single and video that marks the first outing for the band’s revamped lineup.
The California metalcore outfit have brought JT Gutierrez in on bass and vocals, joining vocalist Dana Willax, drummer Truman Berlin and guitarists Max Bremer and Julian Perez. ‘Respawn’ is the first track to feature the new five piece, and it arrives swinging with thick grooves, buzzsaw riffs and a relentless, kinetic charge.
For Gutierrez, the song doubles as an arrival. “‘Respawn’ is the start of a new chapter for the band, and for me stepping in,” he says, describing 15 years of graft leading to a turning point he is grateful for, and a transition into the band that has felt seamless.
Willax calls it a favourite, speaking about how much he loves the range in Gutierrez’s voice and the way the two contrast and complement each other across the track. Lyrically, ‘Respawn’ digs into an unhealthy on and off relationship, the pull of letting someone back in even after they have proven they cannot be trusted, only to be let down once more.
The band have confirmed more new music is on the way, positioning ‘Respawn’ as the opening shot of a fresh era.
