Ols’ Neofolk Video

Polish dark folk artist Ols has unveiled a video for ‘Marzec‘ (Polish for March), taken from her fifth album Poświaty, out now via Pagan Records.

Anna Maria Olchawa, the voice behind Ols, describes the track as a study in stillness. “‘Marzec‘ is my neofolk hypnosis. A simple motif, repeated in a loop, lulls the listener into a state of numbness, much like the feeling when our minds, worn down by a winter that has lasted too long, slip into apathy, discouragement, and a quiet, indifferent resignation.”

She continues: “In the background, ghostly chimes can be heard, the faint clatter of hollow stems and weathered bones. This is how I hear March: moving slowly across the marshes, through the tangled hair of dead grasses. This is how its empty heart pulses. March is a limbo of blue and tawny emptiness, a mirror reflection of November in the still surfaces of wetlands.”

The setting was no accident. “To capture the true spirit of March, I recorded the piece in March itself. The video was also filmed then, on the floodplains of the Dunajec River.”

That devotion to place and season runs through the whole record. Poświaty dwells in the formative space between childhood and adulthood, exploring personal mythology, the transformative power of love and the inevitable pain of loss. The result feels less like a set of songs and more like a slow walk across thawing ground, every step uncertain of what lies beneath.

We find something quietly compelling in an artist who lets a single repeated figure carry so much weight. There is patience here, and a trust that atmosphere alone can hold a listener. For anyone drawn to the bleaker, more meditative end of folk, it rewards close attention.

Poświaty is available now via Pagan Records.
