Texan instrumental innovators Polyphia have released their fifth studio album, Be Not Afraid, via Rise Records, along with a new video for standout track ‘Let There Be Light’, directed by Caleb Young.
“‘Let There Be Light’ is one of those beloved tracks that stuck with us throughout the writing process for the entire record,” says guitarist Scott LePage. “Being one of the first ideas that kickstarted the style for this album, it has seen every part of this record as it was being written.”
The album follows 2022’s Remember That You Will Die, which hit number one on the Billboard Top Hard Rock Albums chart. This time Tim Henson, LePage, Clay Gober and Clay Aeschliman have pushed even further, blending otherworldly metal, future-facing prog and pulsing house music, all built around the theme of good versus evil.
“The album takes you through the extremes of two different worlds,” explains Henson. “One being very uplifting and triumphant, the other being spine-chilling and terrifying. There are moments on the record that legitimately scare me when I listen to them.” The band even recruited choir members from Ye’s Sunday Service, which Henson calls a bucket list moment.
UK fans can catch the new material in December, with Perturbator and RJ Pasin in support.
