Australian industrial death metal group The Berzerker have announced their official return after a 17-year hiatus. The band will perform an exclusive European appearance at this year’s Damnation Festival.
The upcoming performance promises a visual and sonic set intended to move past the technical issues that originally ended the band. Frontman Luke Kenny spoke openly about the decision to halt the project in 2009, pointing directly to live production frustrations.
“I stopped the band in 2009 because I absolutely fucking hated the constant technical problems,” Kenny said. “My body was wrecked, and the technical limitations meant it was never anywhere near what I envisioned. Every show felt like a fucking disaster waiting to happen and I refused to keep giving people a version of this band that didn’t live up to what I imagined.”
Kenny noted that the original vision for The Berzerker relied on extreme speed, chaos, and precision. According to the vocalist, standard live audio and visual setups at the time routinely failed to support that delivery. The decision to bring the band back comes down to modern production advances.
“Seventeen years later, the game has changed,” Kenny added. “I can finally build the machine to provide me with the sonic and visual onslaught I have always imagined. And thanks to Damnation, I’m bringing Sam Bean, Todd Hanson, Matt Wilcock and our whole Australian team over for one epic show. No excuses. No compromise. Just pure brutality.”
The Berzerker take the stage on Saturday 7 November. The lineup for the event also features Carcass, Gorerotted, and EyeHateGod.
