The HU have announced their third album Hun, out 24 July via Better Noise Music, and shared the new single ‘Lost Soul’ featuring Jonny Hawkins of Nothing More.
It is the first collaboration between the Mongolian Hunnu Rock pioneers and Hawkins, and it makes for a striking pairing. The track rides a percussive, groove heavy backbone, the kind of sound the band liken to Mongolia’s unforgiving climate, before opening into a melodic chorus from Hawkins that locks neatly against traditional Mongolian throat singing. Galaa describes the song as a message about not losing yourself or your values on life’s journey, and finding the courage to face whatever it throws at you.
Hun runs to 11 tracks steeped in Mongolian lore, from ‘Warrior Chant’ through to ‘Horsemen’ and ‘Grey Hun’, though the Nothing More version of ‘Lost Soul’ appears only on the digital edition. The band say they took their time getting it right over the past few years, and are already plotting bigger productions and a fresh setlist, with more material reportedly in the pipeline.
The album arrives digitally and on CD on 24 July, with vinyl variants and a box set following on 11 September, including an HMV exclusive for the UK.
We have watched The HU grow from curiosity to a genuine global force, and the fact they keep pushing their sound outward rather than repeating the formula is exactly why they have lasted. A collaboration like this could easily have felt forced, yet on first listen, the two worlds sit together comfortably.
