Vornoff, the now-defunct entity that dealt in dark, lo-fi ambient soundscapes coated in relentless misery, has unearthed another ugly gem from the past. Alsdybet II is a 19-minute opus, essentially a composite suite that pulls together old parts and even older ideas dating back to the early 2000s.
With an emotional, evolving atmosphere, the track is a multilayered offering where fragments of meaning and memory collide. In the words of Vornoff main man J.N.:
“While the song basically expresses an individual’s troubled relationship with the world, it also serves as a homage of sorts to my formative years and the first few (and rather naïve!) attempts of mine at creating music. My musical, literary, and cinematic influences were all over the place back then and it was fucking wonderful. There was just so much to explore and absorb, and there still is, mind you. Also, the title of the piece is a home-made metaphor for navigating treacherous waters, and it can be interpreted in different ways and is purposefully ambiguous. To me, it ties in with anxiety of being and redemption.”
Alsdybet II follows Alsdybet, the collection of lost archival material from 2003 to 2006 that surfaced last December, and it carries the same murky, unguarded quality. This is not a project chasing polish. It is a project excavating itself.
The piece was composed, recorded, and mixed by J.N., who also provided the cover photo. Artwork and layout come from G. Owen Wears, with mastering by Azimuth Mastering.
Alsdybet II was released digitally by Floodgate Moods Productions on 10 July 2026.
