Nashville punk trio Winona Fighter will release their second album, Brutal & Extremely Underrated, on 22 January 2027 via Rise Records. They have shared new single ‘LEECH’ with a video directed by Hannah Hall.
The record follows 2025’s acclaimed debut My Apologies To The Chef, and once again it was made DIY in bassist and producer Austin Luther‘s garage. Part of it was recorded during an ice storm that left the garage without heat. This time, Grammy-winning engineer Greg Collins (System Of A Down, U2) mixed it.
Frontwoman Coco Kinnon, who also plays drums on every track, said: “I especially love that we get to give our fans and new listeners something real in a world of slop.”
Where the debut looked inward, the new album looks out at the state of the world. ‘BOMBS AWAY’ is a hardcore blast about immigration raids across the US. ‘Lily Cut Her Hair’ was written with PUP‘s Stefan Babcock. The closer, ‘Title (REDACTED)’, started life as a song about AI.
‘LEECH’ was written after Kinnon read online comments about the first record, and it has a grungy, self-aware bite. An album made by real people about real things, with every take left raw: we’re very much on board.
