Sacramento’s Destroy Boys have announced their new album, Foie Gras, out on 5 March via Epitaph Records. They have also shared lead single ‘Hysteria’, with a video inspired by analogue horror and The Shining.
Foie Gras was produced by Zach Tuch (Knocked Loose, Touché Amoré), and My Chemical Romance‘s Frank Iero appears on ‘Behavioral Euthanasia’. It is the band’s most adventurous record yet: grunge guitars and hardcore bursts sit alongside post-punk drive, Britpop melodies, breakbeats, bossa nova and jazz-tinged detours.
The title came to the band while touring Europe. It refers to the dish made by force-feeding ducks, a metaphor for everything being force-fed to us, from disinformation and screens to consumerism and the expectation that we accept an increasingly untenable world as normal.
“This album is the culmination of everything Destroy Boys is and has ever done,” said guitarist Violet Mayugba. “This is the most ‘us’ we have ever been.”
‘Hysteria’ is a working-class revolt against a system that expects people to live on scraps, and a fierce opening shot. A decade on from their DIY beginnings, and after tours with Blink-182, Pierce The Veil and Rise Against, Destroy Boys clearly have no interest in standing still, and we love them for it.
Foie Gras by Destroy Boys is released on 5 March via Epitaph Records.
