What more can be said about the legend that is Gary Moore? His work in Thin Lizzy (their best), in Colisseum II, the brilliant BBM, as a solo rocker and, most successfully, a solo bluesman of remarkable skill and feel is simply stunning. His natural feel for the blues is apparent with every bend, sustain and run and his playing has the ability to communicate very emotion.
Some might say, “do we need another live album?” Well, the answer is a resounding yes… this album, Live From London, was recorded at London’s Islington Academy on December 2, 2009, just 14 month’s before his untimely death and this, in my humble opinion, surpasses all of the others; even the Montreux collections.
The old favourites are here: ‘Oh Pretty Woman’, ‘All Your Love’, ‘Still Got The Blues’ and the inevitable ‘Parisienne Walkways’ all of them first class. But, for me, the real highlights are the twelve minute version of ‘I Love You More Than You’ll Ever Know’ that covers each fret and string with majesty, the beautiful and slide drenched ‘The Mojo Boogie’ and the simply magnificent ‘Too Tired/Gary’s Blues’ with guitar and Hammond in rousing form and then the freeform guitar solo just takes the breath away.
I could go on dissecting the tracks but I’ve already run out of superlatives… so just buy the damn thing and revel in blues and rock guitar played by a genius and wonder at the dexterity and passion of a true master.
Released 31st January 2020 via Provogue/Mascot Label Group.
