Billy Gibbons on a Desert High

Top man Billy Gibbons has a new album out on 4th June entitled Hardware; as a taster, we have a second single that is far from typical Billy or ZZ for that matter (accompanied by an animation of a clapped out Dodge in the Desert).

‘Desert High’ is however an atmospheric, instrumentally fascinating track that has Billy speaking most of the lyrics and conjuring up images of desert landscapes populated by scorpions and snakes, plus the spirits of The Lizard King (Jim Morrison), Gram Parsons and the omnipresent Keith Richards. This song was influenced by the location, recorded in Escape Studios in the high desert, Billy says, “The song is, perhaps, not typical of Hardware as a totality but it gives indication of the album’s desiccated sonic sensibility. The desert is a truly mysterious place, and we were privileged to have spent all that time there absorbing the heat, the vibe and cranking it out.”

‘Desert High’ is available now.

I'm fortunate to have retired early & I can now take full advantage of the 40+ years I have spent collecting, listening, watching & playing (badly) & have enjoyed researching how blues in particular has shaped the music we know & love today. Now if only I could get my Strat & Musicman to sound in reality how they do in my head!
