It turns out even being the daughter of one of rock’s biggest names doesn’t mean Dad gets a heads up on the career moves. Dave Grohl has revealed he had absolutely no idea his daughter Violet Grohl had signed a record deal until she casually told him over dinner.
Speaking on The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X, the Foo Fighters frontman explained that Violet, who is 19 and about to turn 20, made her debut album with producer Justin Raisen entirely on her own. She would go to the studio daily and send her dad finished songs, but he had no involvement whatsoever in the record itself.
Grohl knew she was looking to sign a deal, but the first he heard about it actually happening was when Violet invited herself over for dinner. “She was like, ‘Hey, Dad, can I come over for dinner tonight?’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah, sure. What do you want me to make?’ And she came over and told me, ‘I signed my record deal today,'” he recalled.
Violet signed with Republic Records through her own imprint Auroura Records and has already released singles ‘THUM’ and ‘Applefish’, plus the David Lynch-inspired ‘What’s Heaven Without You’. Her debut album Be Sweet To Me is due May 29th.
The proud dad described her record as amazing and credited it with inspiring the new Foo Fighters album. Their upcoming twelfth studio album Your Favorite Toy is set for release on April 24th.
For Reading and Leeds regulars, there’s a lovely full-circle moment here too. Violet has been added to the Reading and Leeds 2026 lineup, the same festival where her dad has headlined multiple times with Foo Fighters. The dual festival runs August 27-30, headlined by Fontaines D.C., Florence + The Machine, Dave, Charli XCX, RAYE and Chase & Status.
