Acclaimed Finnish blues guitarist Erja Lyytinen has released an intimate rendition of Leonard Cohen’s eternal classic ‘Hallelujah’ this festive season, as her latest single.
A song that’s been brutally abused by too many in recent years, Lyytinen reaffirms Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’ with integrity while repurposing it musically with a slighter stronger determination of character – Broken chords proudly play through the changes while her signature slide delivery dips in compassionately, adding festive sparkle to the Canadian poet’s lyrical reaffirmation of his Jewish faith, upon which Lyytinen’s distinct Finnish accent defines the words precisely to re-invoke them with purpose; her final impassioned cries banishing those godawful TV formularised pop versions to the hell they so belong in.
The single is available on all streaming platforms from here and you can check out the video to it here at RAMzine.
Lyytinen’s active presence in the international blues scene was recently highlighted by her receiving the Angel of Rock Award at Britain’s HRH Festival this November just gone.
Following her successful 2024 UK tour, she will return to tour the UK in April 2025. Tickets are available from here and more information about the tour can be found at RAMzine by clicking here.
Erja Lyytinen’s new album, 20 Years of Blues Rock! will be released Friday 20th December, and can be ordered from here.
