Steppin’ Razor Blades are a two-tone ska/punk band who I’m very excited to hear for the first time. I love ska!
Steppin’ Razor Blades are: Jorden Vorachak on vocals, Dan ‘Bopper’ O’Day on guitar, Mickey Deville on guitar, Kody Sanborn on bass, Brenden Meade on drums, Cody Freedom on sax, and Cubby Von Heel on organ.
The band are based in New England, with members spread across Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. They were founded by River City Rebels frontman Dan ‘Bopper’ O’Day, forming in October 2024.
Their debut album Stay Sharp is due for release on 22nd May 2026 via Screaming Crow Records, with 10 tracks. The band released their first single ‘Friend To A Memory’ back on 23rd April 2025, followed by ‘In Stereo’ on 17th April 2026.
Now, is this band worth listening to? Yes they are! Proper classic two-tone ska. We found it very hard to stay still while listening to the album. They sound old school yet modern at the same time, and we really like that. The melodic, upbeat ska rhythm mixed with high energy punk rock is such a great combo. The brass sections are so prominent and help bring that upbeat style to life.
‘Friend To A Memory’ is a perfect example of what upbeat ska should sound like. It’s the first track on the album and introduces the band in the best way.
‘Mundane’ is one of the faster tracks on the album. The high energy and upbeat rhythms get you in the mood to have a dance, and it’s too hard to just sit still during this one.
‘Keep That Shit’ is a track you can easily skank to, while singing along to the lyrics: “Shut the fuck up, keep that shit to yourself”. These are our favourite lyrics on the track. They help let out some anger in a way while still enjoying the upbeat rhythm.
‘Shooting Daggers’ has the lyrics: “Shooting daggers, go on and judge me, you don’t know a single thing about me”, which resonate and ring very true. People are quick to judge others, and we think this track helps call them out on it.
We really like this whole album. We enjoyed all the tracks and will be skanking and dancing a lot until our hearts give out! If you like two-tone ska, then you won’t be disappointed.
